Christmas Card Classes

Would you like to come and make some cards with me?  I have decided to run some card making classes, starting with Christmas cards.
This card is entirely flat (no layers or cutting out).  During the class i will teach you a masking technique  which gives quite a striking 3D effect.

Come and spend a Saturday afternoon creating some surprisingly easy handmade cards to send to your friends this year.

Times and Dates:

2pm Saturday 23rd October 2010
2pm Saturday 6th NOVEMBER: THE CLASS ON THE 30th October 2010 (cup weekend) HAS BEEN POSTPONED.

I'll run these classes in Doncaster, Melbourne.

The idea is for you to make 10 cards:  5 each of the two designs you see here.  Rest assured no previous card making experience is necessary and also there will be no laborious cutting out with scissors!!

The cost will be $20 to cover materials etc.

Please email me on vicky.peartree@gmail.com if you are interested.

Pop up Princesses!

I've always loved pop up cards - they can create a whole new world in a tiny space!  I borrowed a book from the library (actually a kids things to make and do type book) which taught me, very simply, the basics of the box fold card.  I had so much fun mucking around with it and came up with this princess castle.

Just for fun, i cut out some front pieces from pink cardboard and put it through my Epic Six embossing/die cutting machine with a brick like embossing folder.  I water coloured the back ground, stamped on the trees, sponged the grass.  I drew and cut out the two princesses and stuck them out of the windows.

Fun!

Tea LIght Candle Holders

Visiting an atelier in a beautiful little village in France (St Paul de Vence) in 2008, i came across a whole table full of glass tea light holders which had been covered with different types of lovely paper!  What a simple way to combine colour and pattern and light! (And what a privilege to be in such a beautiful place!)

These are one of my first attempts to respond to what i saw (2 years ago!!).  I made them for a friend who has these warm tones in the living room.

The gold pattern is made by stamping and melting embossing powders.  What you can't see in the photo are the tiny lines of holes stabbed through the paper (around in circles) so that the candlelight shines through.

I hope to play around with different ideas and maybe teach this as a class one day (now that i have figured out the mathematics of fitting flat paper to this difficult shape :) ).

PS Fabric Notebook Cover

The next day i showed the kids the fabric covers i had made and they got surprisingly excited; to the point that they wanted to make their own covers for some smaller (A6) notebooks they had.  So we had fun choosing fabric from the scrap box (don't need much for such small books) and got to it.  They helped to do the sewing on the machine too.  Here's what they made:

Here are the insides:

It is a bit easier to see the flaps on this one as we used a contrasting fabric for the inside piece.

For instructions on how to do this please see Fabric Notebook Cover post (August 2010)
