I made this pinafore for my friend Carrie's new baby girl.I figured out the general shape of the pattern based on one of my daughter's dresses from when she was 1.
I decided that making it reversible would actually save on hemming around curved arm holes (lazy seamstress that i am) and also double the wear she could get out of it.
I made one side out of brown corduroy to give it strength and to need less ironing (lazy ironer that i am) and the other out of a quilting fabric that appealed to me. I cut out a bird shape from scraps of brown cord and appliqued it on. Made some little pockets from the quilting fabric and sewed them onto the brown side.
To make it easily reversible I made the back parts of the dress have long bunny ears to reach forward over the shoulder and then used a hammer to put in some press studs i found that look the same from the front as the back (not all do!) In one case the ears go under the front to attach, in the other they go over the top. This avoids having to sew in a zip.
